Helping others help others – TAG and TSH

One thing which is commonly misunderstood about the IT and Business Software industry is the amount of support provided to the providers.  In should it is expected that we must be provided with unlimited opportunities to learn more about products and systems.

 

Well this is certainly half true –  we have unlimited opportunities to learn more.  But not formally.  Most learning is done through independent research.

Thus when an association comes along which is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, and fosters sharing of that knowledge amongst members than this is something we support.  In fact, as President of TAG from 2006-2011, Matthew not only supported it but actively fostered its existence.  This also included presenting several technical papers, discussions, and facilitating workshops on topics ranging from “enhancing customer relations” to improving employee value, and the value thus delivered”.

Not just an organisation for knowledge sharing – TAG also requires that its members – the organisations which support it – adhere to a strict code of ethics.  And that is not just for Channel Partners and Solution Providers – but also the Vendors that “sell” through the channel.

In the end it’s our role to deliver the complex solutions in a constantly changing and complex environment.  If stability is inversely proportional complexity, then anything we can do to learn more can only help bring stability to the environments we manage.

And this has to be a good thing – working towards a better environment for channel partners, vendors, employees, and ultimately – the customers we serve.

Today’s the day! – That we will run out of IPv4 addresses

Its official – IPv4 addresses have been exhausted! Is your business ready for IPv6??  How will it impact your business? ?

As with software and the Year 2000 challenge, IPv6 compatibility is mainly a software issue.  The problem is that number of available addresses in the IPv4 range has run out.  Of course, there are ways to extend the use of IPv4. However none of this provide any guarantees.

ABM 2010 is Released

September 2010

It’s been a long wait but we wanted to ensure that we got ABM 2010 right and now we have. Therefore, ABM 2010 is now formally released. Only two issues arose in beta testing of the Release Candidate which were serious enough to warrant an immediate fix. One was in sales, where the customer name was missing from the default delivery address, and the other was some spurious messages which some clients saw when printing.

IPv6 Exhaustion – what does this mean?

Today’s networks and internet rely on an addressing system for identification and communication – which is known as IP addressing – kind of like unique telephone numbers for every, computer, printer, iphone, ipad, mobile phone etc etc.  Further, this addressing is based on version 4 of the IP addressing standard – or ipv4 for short.When IPv4 was developed over 30 years ago, the creators had no idea what the Internet would look like in the future. ABM 2009 Now Available

May 2009

We are pleased to announce that our ABM 2009 beta test programme has now reached its successful conclusion and that ABM 2009 is now being made available to National Distributors for general release.

The formal release date for ABM 2009 in each country will be co-ordinated and notified separately by each National Distributor.

Whilst the beta testing ABM 2009 has been very satisfactory, we have not been able to find beta sites which use branch accounting or stock reservations. Therefore we ask the channel to inform their distributors if they put ABM 2009 into sites which plan to use either of these features. We can then keep a special eye on these sites and respond quickly in the event of any issues.
